📡 Eliminate Repeated Notifications from Private & Randomized MAC Addresses on Motorola MQ20
With the Motorola MQ20 router and MotoSync+ app, you're equipped with the world’s most intelligent, secure, and seamless WiFi management system. As part of our commitment to your privacy and control, MotoSync+ sends you a notification every time a new device joins your network.
But there’s one catch—your own devices may be appearing as "new" again and again. Why? Because of Private Wi-Fi Address (iOS/macOS) and Randomized MAC Address (Android) settings. These features rotate your device’s MAC address, confusing your router into thinking it's a new device each time you reconnect.
🧠 Why Does This Happen?
Modern smartphones and computers often use private or randomized MAC addresses to protect your identity on public networks. While this enhances privacy in coffee shops, airports, or hotels, it can be inconvenient at home.
On the MQ20, this results in:
- Frequent "new device connected" notifications in the MotoSync+ app.
- Difficulty managing parental controls or device prioritization.
- Confusion when you try to identify known devices.
✅ Recommended Fix: Use a Fixed MAC Address for Your Home WiFi
To prevent these repeated alerts, we recommend disabling randomized/private MAC addressing for your home network only. This setting change will only apply to your home WiFi name (SSID) and will not affect how your device connects to other networks.
Follow the steps below based on your device:
📱 iPhone/iPad (iOS/macOS)
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap the ⓘ icon next to your Home network.
- Tap Private Wi-Fi Address.
- Select Fixed (✅ recommended) or Off.
🔒 This will assign a consistent MAC address every time you connect to your home network, but will retain private addresses elsewhere.
📸 Example:
- iPhone:
- macOS:
📱 Android Devices (Samsung, Pixel, etc.)
- Open WiFi Settings.
- Tap on your Home network.
- Tap Advanced or scroll to MAC address type.
- Select Phone MAC (instead of Randomized MAC).
📸 Example:
✅ This ensures your home network always sees your Android device as the same device. Public networks will still use a randomized address unless changed.
🔔 MotoSync+ & Fixed MAC = Peace of Mind
Once your devices use a Fixed MAC address for your home network:
- MotoSync+ will stop sending repeated notifications for your device.
- You’ll be able to identify devices consistently in the app.
- Advanced features like device pausing, parental controls, and speed prioritization will work more reliably.
📝 Final Reminder
This change only affects your home network. Your phone, tablet, or laptop will still use private/randomized MAC addresses on all other WiFi networks unless you manually change their settings.
