Question:

I have a Motorola Cable Modem Router (Gateway). Even though this is a router, only one computer or device can get to the internet. Why is this happening?

Answer:

The ISP inadvertently pushed the incorrect configuration file to your cable modem router. This file sets up the cable modem router as a bridge modem. When this happens, only one PC or device will be able to get to the internet. Another symptom is that you can no longer log into the router at its default IP Address of 192.168.0.1. It is only accessible at the IP Address of 192.168.100.1. This can happen suddenly, even if your network had been working fine for some time before.

If this has happened to your Motorola Cable Modem Router, reach out to us and provide the Motorola Technical Support Representative with the CM MAC of the unit.

How to Reset Your Cable Modem Router

  1. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the unit.
  2. Push the reset button on the back of the unit and hold it down for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the coaxial cable back to the unit.

You should now be up and running properly and able to connect multiple devices to your network.
